What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community & Volunteer Engagement Director position at YMCA?
This position is responsible for creating a welcoming and resident-focused environment; developing, organizing and implementing programs; fostering small groups and communities; and creating opportunities focused on developing a sense of belonging, ownership and community among our residents. This position directly manages resident services, and volunteers for the branch. This position supervises staff and volunteers and may manage community and vendor agreements and relationships.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent
- Two to four years related experience
- Current Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certification OR equivalent – prior to starting
- Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting if hired
- Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterward
- Attend all other trainings as required for this position
JOB LOCATION: Supportive Housing Campus in Downtown Des Moines
HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Standard work week, but will need flexibility to accommodate evening & weekend hours to for partner/volunteer activities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage member and community resources to effectively and efficiently coordinate services.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Serve as a YMCA representative, both within the organization and outside the organization.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the organization as embodied in the mission statement and values.
- Advocate for the Y Supportive Housing Campus branch to grow the network of supporters and prospective supports.
- Provide leadership and direction for the staff and volunteers working directly with Y Supportive Housing Campus. Own the engagement and experience for all volunteers, including working with our volunteer software to manage recruiting and retaining volunteers, and training volunteers.
- Create and manage marketing materials to advance and advocate for the Y Supportive Housing Campus.
- Manage assigned program areas and activities, ensuring programs comply with all applicable YMCA standards and methods of operation a continually strive to attain the highest possible level of quality.
- Evaluate and review all aspects of assigned programs to ensure consistent quality and safety.
- Coordinate and supervise in-kind donors, donations, food service, and pantry. Ensure pantry is adequately stocked.
- Monitor assigned budget to ensure revenue and expenses are consistent with approved budget plan.
- Prepare and submit all required financial information and reports.
- Create a culture exemplifying the Y Voice, relationship building, accountability, high standards, and service to the residents and community.
- Manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff to ensure satisfactory job performance.
- Prepare and submit payroll paperwork and time/attendance information as required.
- Respond to all emergencies.
- Exercise sound judgment in situations not covered by policies, procedures, and practices.
- Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
Salary : $40,800 - $46,000
