The Human Resource Director position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Human Resources Director at the Darien YMCA serves on the CEO’s senior leadership team and oversees the development and implementation of talent management/human resources policies, plans and services, including recruitment, selection, legal compliance, employee benefits, compensation, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, employment practices and procedures, employee communications and events.
- Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years HR Management experience or equivalent work experience.
- Five or more years of professional experience in all aspects of human resources management and staff development and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and professional experience in policy design and implementation, talent management, compensation, benefits, training and staff development, employee relations, and performance management.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources and employment law.
- Proficiency in business computer applications and human resources information systems, which may include talent management systems, time and attendance systems, etc.
- Professional of Human Resources certification (PHR, SHRM-CP or equivalent) preferred.
- Create engaging, cause-centered culture for staff.
- Participate in strategic planning for the organization. Ensure organizational staff and culture goals align with strategic priorities.
- Maintain and periodically review and update Human Resource policies.
- Assist supervisors in properly implementing disciplinary action process. Review all documentation pertaining to performance, disciplinary actions and termination.
- Collect, compile, and analyze HR data, metrics, statistics, and utilize data to make recommendations.
- Develop and distribute surveys to measure employee satisfaction and engagement. Use data to guide strategy for ongoing improvement.
- Provide consulting support to management on matters of reinforcing culture, setting goals, developing policy, and implementing strategic objectives.
- Assist supervisors in addressing employee conflict and complex employee relations issues. Conduct thorough and objective investigations as needed.
- Providing resources & support for training and all levels. Organize training, conducts initial orientation and supports, employee recognition and communication.
- Assists with onboarding, conducts staff training and orientation; leads retention and recognition programs, supports career development.
- Create organizational systems that remove barriers and foster equity and inclusion for all.
- Administer Unemployment and Workers Compensation claims and attend hearings as needed.
- Create and lead safety committee in accordance with CT regulations.
- Develop and maintain performance management and appraisal programs. Provide assistance to employees and supervisors with questions and in resolving workplace grievances.
- Remain current with employment laws and regulations. Maintain an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources.
- Maintain HR systems and employee records, including both physical and electronic employee files and records.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of data requested by YMCA of the USA, Department of Labor, BLS, etc. Complete and submit employment verification documentation as needed.
- Develop staffing strategies and assist with recruitment efforts. Identify and cultivate appropriate and effective sources for candidates for all levels of jobs.
- Oversee compensation and benefit programs, including job description and classification, salary structure and salary adjustments. Manage benefit plan communication, enrollment and administration.
