We are recruiting for a full-time Consumer Loan Underwriter. The ideal candidate is someone who is highly analytical, critical-thinking, and works well under pressure. *Experience as a loan officer or junior underwriter is highly preferred. Includes a Saturday rotation schedule.

A summary of the position requirements and responsibilities:

  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multitask, work efficiently under pressure, and prioritize workloads with minimal supervision.
  • Reviews and makes loan decisions quickly to ensure turnaround time expectations are met while ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Analyzes applications, credit reports, income documents including tax returns and other financial statements, collateral valuations, member account data and eligibility, to determine feasibility of granting loans while ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures. Within authority, approves and disburses loans submitted through indirect channels. Initiates employment verifications as needed.
  • Provides direction and assistance to lending staff and underwriters with lower lending authority.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with and acts as liaison between dealers and Yolo FCU.
  • Corresponds with lending staff to resolve questions regarding application information or decision.
  • Actively participates in all credit union promotions. If applicable, distributes promotional materials to members.
  • Cross-sells and informs members about featured products and services with enthusiasm.
  • Provides training to other employees as required.
  • Makes recommendations to update loan policies and procedures as warranted.
  • May be required to complete back office tasks such as submitting DMV paperwork to the DMV and tracking title status, loan payment maintenance, collateral releases and any other duties assigned as backup to the Loan Support Specialist.
  • With appropriate lending authority, underwriters will review and underwrite HELOC loans while ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Meet or exceed all established sales and service performance expectations.
  • Possess an effective knowledge of our products and services with special emphasis on how each will improve our members’ financial success.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent training or experience. Previous underwriting experience is a plus. Previous experience that would normally be acquired through a minimum of two years as a loan officer in a credit union or financial institution. Completion of credit union orientation and at least 4 weeks on-the-job training. Requires a broad knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures as well as advanced knowledge of credit fundamentals and ability to make sound credit decisions. Ability to work well under the stress of time deadlines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating policies and procedure manuals. Ability to comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and loan documents. Ability to write basic correspondence and reports as well as effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to the public, members, and other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
