Job Description

YouGov is seeking an insightful quantitative thinker with a passion for efficiency who excels at data analysis and data visualization. The successful candidate will take initiative to learn new things and improve existing processes. They will show persistence in troubleshooting and refining scripts and processes and a commitment to quality checking their own work. They should navigate comfortably between technical and non-technical audiences. They can implement technical solutions based on non-technical descriptions, and, conversely, translate technical insights into non-technical language. They will be principally responsible for communicating quantitative findings and extracting meaning from data that has been collected. They may also be involved in research design and data collection and may be called on to provide written analysis in addition to quantitative analysis.  

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Execute and maintain scripts to generate high quality research reports and data visualizations
  • Fulfill ad hoc requests for data extraction, organization, and manipulation
  • Use working knowledge of data handling and statistical tests to ensure accurate interpretation of data
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with researchers, statisticians, survey programmers and developers of YouGov’s proprietary data tools
  • Train and assist researchers in how to maintain scripts to generate reports as needed

Assist Senior Analyst to: 

  • Develop and innovate data visualization capabilities
  • Seek opportunities to improve survey research, reporting, and analysis processes through automation 
  • Improve the rigor of data reporting through the inclusion of measures of uncertainty
  • Integrate strong design aesthetic into data visualizations and reports
  • Implement reporting solutions across variety of formats (e.g. PPT, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Shiny Dashboards)

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years previous experience with quantitative market research, academic research, or related field. Advanced degree may offset work experience.
  • Proficient with R (experience using R through script interface).  Preferably with experience constructing functions, debugging code and familiarity with packages used for visualizations (dplyr, ggplot2, ReporteRs, officer, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of statistical tests commonly used in social science research
  • Able to work independently with some direction
  • Experience with PowerPoint and G Suite (Sheets, Slides)
  • Experience with Python, Tableau, LaTeX, Shiny  a plus
  • Training or experience in graphic design a plus
