REPORTS TO Director, MBAC
SALARY BAND Director/Manager Level 1 ($40k-$55k)
POSITION SUMMARY
The MBAC Business Counselor is responsible for providing Business Counseling to MBAC eligible clients.
This position will promote and advocate for MBAC and Minority and Women Business ownership and leadership, and working with the other local resources and funders to assure that all goals and requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner. The position is stationed in Youngstown, Ohio but will be responsible for delivering business development services primarily in the counties of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana. The purpose of this position is to promote the growth and creation of women and minority business enterprises as a channel for creating personal and community wealth. This accountability requires a broad base of business knowledge, excellent analytical skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. BUSINESS COUNSELOR – RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as an advocate of small business development, expansion and retention in the area, thereby becoming visible and vocal in the local business community
- Maintain adequate client files and other program documentation
- File quarterly reports with the State of Ohio and other funders, as required
- Effectively market business training and technical assistance programs within assigned communities, so as to meet annual goals
- Develop partnerships with colleagues, individuals, and organizations to enhance program success and expand the network of resources to which clients have access
- Provide counseling and consulting to existing and prospective entrepreneurs; provide clients with guidance in all aspects of business and determine their needs and capabilities
- Deliver high quality business training programs that are responsive to the needs of the business community
- Develop annual work plan that will allow entrepreneurs have access to the business services they need
- Interviewing and assessing clients' needs and developing action plans
- Attend training sessions for business counselors to facilitate on-going knowledge and ability to provide in-depth consulting
- Assist in planning and marketing seminars, training sessions and conferences
- Community involvement including public speaking as needed or directed
- Participate in training events as an instructor or moderator
- Provide special assistance to women and minority owned enterprises
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Training and Experience: Required a minimum of three years prior experience in business management. Startup and entrepreneurship experience are strongly preferred.
- Job Skills: Outstanding management skills, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor’s degree required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics or other related fields and possess a minimum of five years of experience in business management or business ownership
