Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION : Under the direction of the Director, of IT Infrastructure and Security, this position performs duties and responsibilities related to protecting the organization's computer systems, networks, and data from unauthorized access, breaches, and cyber threats. This position provides technical advice, coordination, and planning in support of technology projects and initiatives of considerable scope and complexity; design, develop, test, install, monitor, and maintain technology security systems for the district; and provides advanced guidance to technologists and systems users in system security best practices.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS : The Information Security Analyst plays a crucial role in maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and ensuring the overall security posture of the organization. The incumbent will act as operational lead when interacting with Information Security vendors for Risk Assessments, Vulnerability Assessments, and security-related application testing. Further, this position oversees Information Security Analysts and coordinates with other operational members of the team during incident response.

- Provides supervision for Information Security Analysts and coordination of other operational members of the team during incident response.
- Manages the incident response and vulnerability and security assessments for compliance and audits.
- Participates in formulating, developing, and implementing integrated security strategies and architecture of District computer systems. Provides planning and advanced technical expertise for securing computer and network services for both local, wide-area, and cloud systems.
- Participates in the development, and recommendation, of information security policies and procedures, and protocols pertaining to managing the protection and security risk of college data and IT systems and assets.
- Oversees management of user identity and access control, including limiting access to information assets based on Data Classification policies and procedures, auditing the use of privileged accounts, and use of Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Provide project coordination and implementation support for technology implementations.
- Ensures continuous operations and security, responding to incidents as they occur. Configures, maintains, and participates in the installation of directory structures, security applications and software.
- Continually analyzes server and network activity and establishes approaches that prevent penetration of network and servers by unauthorized individuals. Monitors user access to servers, applications, networks, and cloud services.
- Identifies and assesses potential security risks and vulnerabilities using industry standard tools, risk assessments, security monitoring, vulnerability management, security auditing and compliance.
- Researches, defines, and proposes changes and upgrades to network infrastructure, operating systems, and applications to ensure proper security. Determines appropriate security configurations of hardware platforms, operating systems, and applications.
- Assists with the development and implementation of administrative procedures, system standards, protocols, and controls for operation of the district infrastructure, computer systems, and applications.
- Utilizes the District-established service request system to maintain records of user requests for support that detail hardware and software configurations and any changes that are applied, for all desktop, laptop, mobile systems, and associated hardware.
- Gathers information and prepares reports for presentations to management, staff, and external agencies as needed and required.
- Create and provide individual and group training to support users on Information Security and related topics as part of the Information Security Awareness training program.
- Research, recommend, compose, and refine web content related to Information Security.
- Interacts and communicates with vendors to solve technical issues or security issues with equipment and software; coordinates and communicates system changes with technical staff and peers; makes recommendations and test networking and software modifications; may serve as technical liaison to external vendors to provide support.
- May assist in budget formulations and preparation; monitor and maintain budget expenditures; coordinate distribution of awards and grant funds; process budget transfers, encumbrances, purchase orders, travel arrangements and travel reimbursements.
- Provide work direction and work schedule to student assistants as assigned; verify and monitor hours worked and submit to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains a level of formal and self-training to remain effective and knowledgeable with current technologies, standards, and codes.
- Maintains a variety of computer and telephone test equipment and an array of analysis tools.
- Maintains a line of open communication with supervisor regarding all issues that might cause or are causing poor performance.
- Serves on a variety of District committees as requested.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent*; OR
- The completion of a formal trade apprenticeship program; AND
- Two (2) years of work experience closely related to the duties and responsibilities of this class.
- Bachelor’s Degree education equivalency equals four (4) years of increasingly responsible work experience for each full year (24-30 units) of college.
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout the duration of employment with the district.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or similar.
- Four (4) years of work experience closely related to the duties and responsibilities of this class.
