The System Application Engineer EV is responsible for the overall system application of commercial vehicle ePowertrain products into Truck, Bus and Pickup vehicle applications. Represents ZF as the primary technical liaison to the customer. Acts as a technical project manager to the customer during the acquisition/application/development phases of new launch programs, with a focus on hardware topics. The controls topics are coordinated with the Software Application Engineer who is acting in tandem to this System Application Engineer.
**Position Responsibilities:**
Working with the CV ePowertrain propulsion products (central electric drives, wheel/axle electric drives)
Manage Customer Technical Requirements & Specifications related to our ePowertrain application activities.
Support all customer requests for overall engineering documentation and data needed as part of their engineering release processes.
Develops engineering overall program/project timelines, and maintains open issues lists.
Oversee and support technical communication (design, testing, change-management, and project/program management) by serving as the liaison between ZF global product engineering and local customer engineering departments.
Support design evaluations and package studies at the customer; coordinate the distribution of information and serve as the intermediary/gatekeeper for confidential data exchange.
Respond quickly and develop corrective actions for technical and business issues during product development initiatives.
Coordinate the controls/software/calibration topics with the Software Application Engineer who is acting in tandem to this System Application Engineer.
Coordinate prototype supply requirements (quantity, delivery, etc.) between ZF location and customer.
Clearly and professionally communicate plans and results (reports, meetings, customer presentations, development test plans and reports, software checklists, etc.), verbally and in writing, to manager, coworkers (international & local), industry partners, and customers.
Support (on-site as necessary) in any issues arising during customer testing stages related to ZF product (including, but is not limited to, providing technical support for customer prototype and vehicle builds, software and vehicle tests, dynamometer and component tests, and transmission systems application projects).
Review the local market and research new technologies that may improve Powertrain control principles, and develop recommendations accordingly. Innovate and develop patentable designs - support IP activities.
Provide technical support as needed to the Field Organization, Service Parts, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing, OEMS,
and suppliers.
Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
Travel requirements: 25% on average (mainly domestic, with international for training)
Perform other duties as assigned.
**Essential Skills and Experience:**
B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical, Computer/Software, Automotive or related field)
5 years of engineering experience in systems or hardware, controls or software, product development, testing, and/or manufacturing environment (includes co-op and/or internship experience).
Experience with CV ePowertrain propulsion products (central electric drives, wheel/axle electric drives)
Working knowledge of powertrain technology and the technical aspects of applications engineering within product design/development stages.
Interdisciplinary project management experience within global matrix organization
Experience and ability to interface with customers, cross-functional teams, and all levels of personnel/management. Able to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.
Ability to develop and convey complex technical solutions to OEM customers.
Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Able to work independently manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated).
English language - same level of proficiency as native-speaker.ere with some manufacturing/lab exposure
