What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grain Merchandiser Assistant position at ZFS Ithaca?
The Grain Merchandiser Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Grain Merchandising department with tasks that relate to customer relations, trading commodities, and grain origination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research competitive position for market bids against targeted competitors.
- Completes reporting on daily commodity positions, prepares daily bid sheets, and updates freight rates.
- Organizes paperwork associated with contracts and maintains new and current customer information in the computer database.
- Coordinate internal meetings and customer related functions.
- Assists Merchandisers in various customer inquiries.
- Provides a "Customer Service" attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
- Performs all other tasks as requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Experience: 1-3 years related experience and/or training preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of local and regional grain markets.
- Planning, coordinating, and budgeting activities.
- Reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, reports, business correspondence.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, managers, and customers.
- Proficient in working with various software programs.
- Proficient in mathematics. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Must obtain valid drivers license and willing to travel on occasion.
- Maintain good attendance habits.
- Abide by all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.
- Abide by company's safety, quality, environmental and HR policies at all times.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit.
- Use of stairs and ladders may be required.
- Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
- Operate mostly in an office environment.
- Travel may be required for meetings and customer related functions.
