About the role:
As our Full-Charge Bookkeeper, you will play a critical role in client service and ensuring that Zoar Finance remains a trusted partner to our clients. We want you to bring your energy, ideas, and enthusiasm to your work each day to help Zoar Finance grow into all that it can be.
The main expectation for our Full-Charge Bookkeeper is to fully manage the books for a number of clients. That means you will be engaging with our clients, getting to know them and their businesses, and working to ensure that Zoar Finance is fully meeting their needs. In addition to the client relationships, you’ll need to interact and work with our bookkeeping team for your assigned clients.
Below are some examples of day-to-day tasks you would be responsible for:
● Transaction categorization of bank feed items
● Running payroll and booking the associated journal entries
● Accounts Payable management, including bill pay responsibilities
Reviewing the monthly close for assigned clients. Working with bookkeeping/accounting staff to ensure books are closed timely and accurately
● Preparing and filing sales tax returns as well as scheduling the tax payments
● Preparing invoices based on data provided by the client
● Performing account reconciliations, including inter-company accounts
● Preparing the month-end close for assigned clients
● Other duties as assigned
Key attributes that will lead to success in this role include:
● Attention to detail - accuracy and thoroughness are essential. This is an accounting firm, after all.
● Autonomy - being able to work independently without constant supervision is key to this role. You will have access to the COO and CEO and any support needed, but we are looking for an individual who is able to take the baton from us and run with it.
● Humility - it is more than OK to say “I don’t know”! We do not believe that getting something done poorly is better than not getting it done at all. At Zoar Finance, it’s ok to raise your hand and ask for help. In fact, we prefer that and we encourage it!
● Teamwork - we’re a small company and we all need to be able to work together in order to be effective. Some of our team members are located in other states and it’s important that we all make an effort to act as a cohesive team.
● Initiative - we’re looking for a problem-solver. Creativity and inventiveness will be helpful in this role.

Some details that might be helpful to know:
● The majority of our clients are on QuickBooks Online as their accounting ledger, with a smaller number on Xero.
● Our client base is diverse, representing industries that range from coffee shops to legal services to money management to group therapy practices, and more. We seek to work with small businesses, primarily in service sectors.
● This role is based in Pittsburgh, PA and will be considered a hybrid role with some in-office days required and some remote work being totally fine. This can be quite flexible.
● Zoar Finance has historically paid a profit-share bonus to employees each quarter. We can’t promise this every quarter, but so far we’ve been able to do it.
● We offer a 401(k) plan with employer contributions.
● No travel is required for this position.
● This position will initially be an independent contributor with no direct supervisory responsibilities. As the business grows and your capabilities expand, this could change.

Required education, experience, skills:
● Minimum of 3 years bookkeeping or accounting experience
● Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation
● Independent, creative thinker
● Comfort and experience with QuickBooks Online is preferable
● Entrepreneurial
● Experience using Google Suite, Excel, Client Hub, Airtable, 1Password, other modern tech tools is highly preferred
