Essential Job Functions
The Social Media Specialist is responsible for advancing the work of Zoo New England’s Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo in the areas of digital storytelling and engagement, and social media management. This individual reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and will also work collaboratively with the entire marketing and communications team to lead and execute the strategic social vision.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for social media strategy, content planning and social channel development
- Lead and manage campaigns from start to completion through content and strategy planning
- Generate, edit, publish, and share content daily. The Zoos’ social accounts currently include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.
- Lead the development, management and execution of the monthly social media calendar
- Gather and track social analytics data; deliver monthly reports on social media activities using social media analytic tools like Facebook Insights, Hootsuite
- Collaborate with external digital agency to create and place paid social ads, and boost organic posts as needed.
- Stay on top of industry trends and the changing social landscape; make informed social strategy recommendations to achieve strategic goals of audience engagement and growth
- Communicating with followers, responding to questions and feedback in a timely manner
- Communicate closely with other departments throughout the Zoo to inform team members of promotional needs and storytelling opportunities
- Attend and document events and other activities to develop and create social content
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements
- Effective November 14, 2021, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism or similar focus with 2-4 years of experience
- Experience in creating content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn, as well as digital storytelling
- Experience with social media campaign creation, scheduling and tracking
- Familiarity with social media management dashboards like Hootsuite and Creator Studio
- Adept at effective and impactful digital storytelling
- Understanding of social media KPIs
- Extreme attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Must be highly organized and self-motivated
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and Photoshop
- Basic design, audio and video editing skills
- Ability to travel to and from Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo
Preferred Job Requirements
- Experience working for a non-profit and/or cultural attraction
- Knowledge of wildlife, environmental and conservation issues highly desirable.
Hours: The Social Media Specialist’s typical scheduled hours will be Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Due to the nature of the position, there will be times when the Social Media Specialist will be required to work early mornings and evenings, as well as weekends to document events.
