The City of Geneva operates under the Council/City Manager form of government. The Geneva City Council is made up of seven elected officials. All the Councilors are at-large. The President is elected at the special council meeting on the first Monday of December following an election of Councilors. The Vice-President and others are then appointed. All seven City Council members are paid a modest stipend. City Council elections are held in the November elections in the odd numbered years. The President of Geneva City Council is the presiding officer at all City Council meetings. He represents the City on local, state and national levels. In his absence, his duties are performed by the Vice-President. The City of Geneva Council is the City's legislative body. It sets policies, approves budgets, determines tax rates and passes ordinances and resolutions to govern the City. Council also appoints citizen volunteers to the City's boards and supervises the performances of the City Manager, the City Solicitor and the Clerk of Council. The City of Geneva Council meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall located at 44 N. Forest Street, Geneva, Ohio. Work Session and Committee Meetings are scheduled at Council's request. All Council and Committee meetings are open to the public.
