For over 50 years the Homewood Parks & Recreation Board has provided quality leisure programs, services and facilities to the Citizens of Homewood, Alabama. The Parks & Recreation Board offers a variety of programming including camps for children, art, drama, dance, senior travel, personal training, youth & adult athletics, city-wide special events and much more. All of our Community Centers also offer fitness opportunities. The Parks & Recreation Board plays an important role in the above average quality of life experienced by Homewood Citizens. The Homewood City Council appoints members of the community to serve on the volunteer administrative board for the park system. The Board appoints and supervises a Parks & Recreation Executive Director. The Parks & Recreation Board Executive Director leads and directs staff to meet the goals and objectives of the Parks & Recreation Board. The Parks & Recreation Board employs 45 full-time staff members, approximately 35 year round part-time staff members and 70 seasonal summer workers that serve as maintenance laborers, lifeguards and day camp counselors. The Homewood Parks & Recreation Board meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:30pm. Meetings are held at the Homewood Community Center located at 1632 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209. Occasionally the Board does choose to have their monthly meeting at other facilities or other dates due to scheduling conflicts.
