Independent Environments, Inc. (IEI) is a non-profit corporation which provides residential support services to adults who experience developmental disabilities. Such disabilities include but are not limited to intellectual functioning deficits, cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impairments, speech and language disorders, epilepsy, brain injuries, autism and emotional disturbances. IEI supports twenty-one people, men and women, who live in six homes which are owned by IEI. IEI has a seven-member Board of Directors which meets monthly. An Executive Director oversees all program operations. IEI is a unique, value driven organization. We are small by choice, following a slow and carefully orchestrated model of growth. We believe that while growth is healthy, maintaining quality of life for the people we support is essential. Of our six program sites, three are group homes for five people each, another home is designed for three people, another for two and IEI currently shares its sixth home and administrative office site with one disabled person. All homes are staffed 24 hours a day and have been created by focusing on the specific needs of the people we support. One of our key values is to be person centered, meaning that we primarily create our sites to meet existing needs or in response to the changing needs of the people we support. This practice has grown into an IEI tradition.
