While sitting in my High School classes, I found myself just dreaming of establishing a church that would bring God's healing love to it's community. I would even draw pictures of churches and would imagine people experiencing God's grace in a transformative way. Yes, I was an odd teenager. :) In my mid-twenties, I felt a strange and yet strong calling to plant this church in the South Bay of Los Angeles. After, serving eight years on staff at a church in Orange County, that church blessed us to plant Jesus Center in the region I felt called to. We only knew two people who lived in the South Bay, yet, somehow, about a dozen people (who mostly lived in the Orange County area) joined the launch team. On May 5th in 2013, in a small office building in North Torrance, we had our first official gathering. We grew rapidly. Jesus Center has grown into a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church family with campuses in South Torrance and Downtown San Pedro. Since Day 1, our mission has been to bring hearts back to God. This is because I personally believe we were made for a relationship with God, and bringing hearts back to God is like bringing a fish back to the water. As a church family, we are cultivating a humble spirituality, together. We are a relational community, we would love to get to know you better and see you find empowering friendships here. We are a compassionate church, and it is our great joy and privilege to serve our cities with the love God has put within our hearts. We are church that does stuff beyond the walls. That is a little about us. We hope to hear your story and get to know you better! I grew up in Orange County and met my wife, Meg, in college. We met at a trolley stop on the campus of Azusa Pacific and have been together ever since. As a teenager, I was actively involved in leading and teaching. We had the privilege to serve on the staff of a church Orange County for eight yearsI was an associate pastor and Meg volunteered in the nursery ministry. In 2013, we moved to the South Bay with a ...

  5. Pastoral Care: Pastoral care is an ancient model of emotional and spiritual support that can be found in all cultures and traditions. The term is considered[by whom?] inclusive of distinctly non-religious forms of support as well as of those from religious communities. Humanist groups, which act on behalf of non-religious people, have developed pastoral care offerings in response to growing demand for the provision of like-minded support from populations undergoing rapid secularisation, such as the UK. Humanists UK for example manages the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network, a network of trained and accredited volunteers who operate throughout prisons, hospitals, and universities in the UK. The terms pastoral care and pastoral support are preferred because these sound less religious than terms such as chaplaincy. Surveys have shown that more than two thirds of patients support non-religious pastoral care being available in British institutions. Similar offerings are available from humanist groups around Europe and North America.
