Joseph Decuis was founded in 1996 as the private dining facility for American Specialty whose clients enjoyed exquisite cuisine in our richly appointed, world-class, private setting. In the Spring of 2000 we opened to the public and quickly earned a distinctive reputation for superb gourmet dining. The restaurant is named in honor of our ancestor, Joseph Decuis (1752-1822), who exemplifies the American Dream. The grandson of and indentured servant, Joseph was a successful Louisiana planter, businessman and patriot. Both he and his older brother fought in the Revolutionary War and his youngest brother fought in the infamous Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. Our restaurant's logo is an artful depiction of his original signature from his Last Will and Testament in 1818. As the patriarch of our family he began our familial custom of "dining in the Creole tradition" which we continue today. He believed, as did the Creoles of his day, that dining was an important social event where exceptional cuisine set the stage for conversation, laughter and bonding between family, friends and business associates. This family tradition inspired the founding of our restaurant and remains the major foundation. We firmly believe that in today's fast paced, fast-food, drive-through world, proper dining remains an important social event and a pleasure of life.
