Mater Dei Catholic High School, founded in 2007, is a private, college- preparatory, coeducational institution under the guidance of the San Diego Diocese and fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA). The school has 735 students currently enrolled in grades9 through 12 and is made up of 177 Freshmen, 192 Sophomores, 197 Juniors, and 168 Seniors. The average class size is 22, with a faculty student ratio of 1:17. Mater Dei Catholic is located south of San Diego, a beautiful beach city with a population in excess of 3 million. The school is internationally rec- ognized and serves a variety of students. The ethnic composition of the student body is 2% African-American; 12% Asian/Pacific Islander; 9% White-American; 65% Mexican-American; and 12% declaring other cul- tural backgrounds. The MDCHS faculty is made up of one Sister Servant of the Blessed Sacrament, 18 lay men and 33 lay women. Included in this body are three counselors, one campus minister, and two librarians.
