The senior management only works towards their own personal image and interests, none of them are really involved with the daily operations. If you try to find solutions to any operational problem, they make it seems that you're the problem. Policies are outdated and the HR department hides in its own cave, ignoring all structural and personnel issues. People are only actually fired if any senior manager feels personally attacked. If you try to fix things, it might be perceived as a personal attack by some senior managers. If you work there and constantly break policies or you're unconsciously helping to support a supremacist culture, you will never be fired. Most of the staff that works in the programming are great people and work towards the PAL's mission. If you work in specific Centers, you're most likely to have a good experience, but do not expect that you will have support from departments at the headquarters. Most of the Directors and Chiefs are not concerned with the staff at all, so if you're looking for a career in a nonprofit, PAL is not the place to go.
The people were kind , loving, most of all growling. I was truly amazing as to all i learned over the years. I love working with community it's was awesome.
I love love love working for pal. Love the flexibility of making my own lessons for the kids. The director of my site is the most supportive and caring boss I’ve ever had. My direct supervisor was always readily available to assist in anything the staff needed. If you love working with kids and want a challenging and rewarding position this is it. Also as a parent the job was understanding to my need at times to step out or miss a day due to my child. Inclusive family oriented environment.
I love the team there, everyone is very nice. But you know, it's a non profit so it has all the non profit characteristics - not competitive pay, complicated procedures, far from paperless environment
It was a great experience working in the Youth Link program. The director was amazing, motivating and inspiring. I loved working with re-entry adolescents.
Good place to learn. Facilities are well maintained. Fun agency wide events. However, leadership was horrible. Little room for advancement. Previous Executive Director was arrogant and judgmental.
I worked years before the pandemic hit so I can’t speak on their terms of remote work but when I did work there as a teenager, it was ok I guess. I didn’t get to receive the benefits as a group leader because I was an intern who got paid off minimum wage who only worked for a set few months.
Although the agency has good quality staff members that genuinely care about their line of work in youth services, the environment from the top down is not conducive to the great work environment that it could be. Too many chiefs fighting for power rather than working together towards a common goal. The agency has an excessive amount of employee turnover for a reason. Overall the agency lacks organization, its policy is outdated, supervisors in senior management roles lack clear directives, consistency, and do not provide support. The overwhelming among of work requested for the pay provided is not worth it.
