Well, with ProfitAbility launching a social learning platform earlier this year, and focusing 100% on great learning (more about that in a later post, if one of my colleagues takes up the challenge!), we need to be certain that the ProfitAbility user experience is optimised at every point. A grand sentiment, you may say, but what does that actually mean? Well, for starters it means getting rid of unnecessary PowerPoint and manuals, and focusing on the learning outcomes. It means putting great instructional design at the heart of everything we do - and not being afraid to reinvent something that works, if we think we can make it better. So we come full circle back to the Corporate ProfitAbility simulation. On Thursday, we cycled around the team, with different individuals taking different roles, and participating in the simulation (I go the role of "keen but dim" - I do hope no-one is trying to tell me something!). The rest of the team acted as observers, and each took a specific observational role, for example, reviewing: Learning objectives communication engagement points learner interface facilitator experience user experience future opportunities. All in all, it was a draining but highly enlightening experience. We ran through two rounds of the simulation. Then we imagined ourselves into cyberspace, where we ran the simulation again with and against virtual teams, and examined possible points of failure for the experience.
