Requirements and Responsibilities

Test Pilot pilots aircraft to test features and functionality and to ensure compliance with federal regulations and product specifications. Ensures operational functionality and pilot and passenger safety. Being a Test Pilot recommends changes to cockpit or aircraft to better meet the pilot's needs or to improve flight. Performs maneuvers and procedures to test features or modifications. Additionally, Test Pilot may pilot demonstrations for officials or customers. May require a bachelor's degree. Requires FAA Commercial Pilot's License with necessary ratings. Typically reports to a manager. The Test Pilot work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. To be a Test Pilot typically requires 4 -7 years of related experience.
