Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Academic Advising Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Description

    Position Summary

    Academic Advising at Walsh University is a process through which students and advisors work together to set an individualized plan for student's academic goals. Though it is a collaborative process with other departments, students themselves are ultimately responsible for their own educational experience. Academic Advisors also assist with students personal or social issues and encourage the use of other resources provided to students on campus.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Advise student on an individual basis on applicable course selection, academic, and University policies. Average case load is approximately 120 students. Expectations are to meet with each student at least two to three times a semester.
    • Monitors student academic progress and regular communicate with students regarding the academic progress
    • Stay up-to-date on academic policies and procedures across campus as well as within specific academic divisions.
    • Retain advising records and comply with FERPA regulations
    • Provide information semester overview of advising appointments including qualitative data on advising and produce reports as needed
    • Work directly as needed with faculty, division chairs/program directors and school deans
    • Utilize electronic forms of student support for on campus and remote learning students
    • Utilize Banner by Ellucian, Salesforce and online scheduling software to manage office tasks
    • Assist in creating and leading programing outreach events regarding academic advising
    • Respond to emails in a professional and timely manner
    • Represent department at recruiting and orientation events
    • Represent department as needed for committees and as needed on campus
    • Instruct one section FYE 101 course for first year students as needed
    • Other duties as assigned or required.

    Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

    Must understand and support the Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

    Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

    Work Experience:

    • Professional work experience in customer service, student development, or education is a preferred

    Skills and abilities:

    • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff, and faculty. Positive attitude is a must.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Experience with Ellucian and/or Salesforce is preferred.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of campus and community constituencies

    The physical requirements of the job include prolonged sitting, extended periods of keyboard work and use of a computer monitor, walking, occasional lifting and carrying objects no more than 20 pounds.
