Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Resident Director, Summer Academic Institute

    The Resident Director (RD) works under the supervision of the Opportunity Program (OP) staff to lead a team providing holistic instruction and mentoring in academic, social, and emotional expectations for program participants throughout the five weeks of the Summer Academic Institute (SAI). We are particularly interested in candidates from underrepresented groups that can add to the diversity and excellence of our academic program and community.

    The RD is a live-in professional who will maintain a just, purposeful, and secure residential learning community supporting the mission of the OP’s summer program. The RD will lead the design and implementation of supplemental instruction connected to both faculty-run courses and holistic social programming. The RD will oversee Resident Advisors (RAs) and Teaching Assistants (TAs), coordinating their job responsibilities with other OP office staff. This position responds independently to emergency situations, backs up RMs in the on-call rotation for the residential community, and works collaboratively with the OP office staff.  

    Responsibilities include: designing and implementing instruction on academic, social, cultural, and recreational expectations during the afternoons, evenings, and weekends; maintaining an environment conducive to learning; providing excellent personal, social, and academic peer counseling to participants and guiding RAs and TAs in providing the same level of support; conducting nightly rounds to ensure the safety of all residents; assisting in the critical enforcement of policies, practices, and procedures; providing a reasonably safe learning environment for the participants within the residence halls; attending regular weekly staff meetings; and other duties as assigned by the OP staff.  The RD also shares in the responsibility of serving as a first responder to the professional staff during crisis and emergency response within the residence halls.

    Supervisory responsibilities include: serving as the lead advisor to the RAs; serving as the coordinator for TAs; designing and implementing Excel documents for the purpose of tracking tutor and tutee hours for required program reporting; maintaining a quiet educational setting during evening tutoring hours; coordinating daily meetings with staff before the start of tutorial sessions; attending daily tutorial sessions. 

    The RD is required to live in the residence hall for the duration of the five-week summer program, including weekends. RD and all other staff must participate in virtual onboarding and a one-week on-campus staff training preceding the summer program. Room & Board included.

    Education: Recent graduate with a bachelor’s in Education or a related field.  

    Preferred Qualifications  

    Currently enrolled in a master’s program in Higher Education or a related field. Residential Life experience. Valid driver's license.

    Salary

    $4,500-$5,000, based on experience
