Academic Advising Director jobs in Utah

Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Academic Advising Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Specialist I, Academic Advising

  • The Specialist 1 serves as the initial contact for all guests to Academic Advising. The Specialist 1 performs receptionist duties in a positive, cheerful, professional, and enthusiastic manner. Assists with crowd management during the months with the highest intake of students.

    This is a part-time position which provides front desk coverage during regular business hours, Monday-Thursday 1:00PM-7:00PM, and Fridays from 12:30PM-4:30PM, however, work location and hours may vary depending on the needs of the department.
    Essential Responsibilities and Duties
    • Provide a warm and welcoming environment to all incoming students and guests of the Academic Advising office.
    • Assist students, both in person and over the phone, in scheduling appointments to see their advisors.
    • Effectively manage and triage students and redirect them to other services as needed.
    • Proactively notify advisors of demand of services.
    • Refer students to campus resources.
    • Access the A-Z index on the college website as well as the Advising website for information to provide students with quick answers to frequently asked questions.
    • Flexibility with work hours during RUSH and for sick, vacation, or other coverage.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
    High School graduate or GED and one year of work experience in an office setting.

    • Flexible, dependable and reliable.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills (i.e., listening skills, collaboration, negotiation).
    • Have a cheerful disposition and enjoy working with a diverse staff and student body, both over the phone and in-person.
    • Understand the functions of the Student Affairs offices.
    • Have a demonstrated ability finding information on the SLCC website.
    • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
    • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
    Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties
    Assist other support staff with special projects, calling campaigns, flyer creation and/or event planning/decorating as needed.
    Other duties as assigned.
