Assists students in setting academic goals, course planning and career development. Being an Academic Advisor may work with individual students or groups. Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling or related field or its equivalent. Additionally, Academic Advisor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Academic Advisor gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     As an Academic Advisor you will be responsible for supporting and retaining our current students. You will have strong communication skills and a passion for serving the next generation of business and technology leaders.


    Your Responsibilities Include:

    • Advise students on academic programs, course selection, and degree requirements in accordance with their academic and career goals.
    • Monitor student progress, anticipate challenges, and offer proactive academic improvement strategies.
    • Conduct advising sessions through various formats for student convenience, including virtual, phone, in-person, and email.
    • Maintain regular communication with students regarding academic policies, deadlines, and resources.
    • Address academic concerns and create intervention plans in collaboration with faculty and stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with Career Services to connect students with internship opportunities, job fairs, and career development resources.


    Your Qualifications Include:

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
    • A minimum of one year student/customer service experience required.
    • Student service or academic experience in higher education required.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Must be able to travel to other local locations as needed.
    • Must be able to work one early evening per week as part of a flexible schedule.


    30-Day Goals:

    • Learn systems, policies, and programs integral to student success.
    • Understand the student population and identify key Walsh resources available.


    60-Day Goals:

    • Monitor student progress and ensure courses are planned on student timelines for future terms.
    • Attend student success sessions to implement and promote student success strategies.


    90-Day Goals:

    • Implement retention strategies to support students in persisting towards graduation.
    • 80% persistence of assigned caseload semester to semester.
