Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling or related field or its equivalent. Additionally, Academic Advisor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Academic Advisor gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     The Academic Advisor (AA) partners with our students to aid in their success throughout the tenure of their program. The AA begins the relationship with matriculation into the program, oversees new student orientation for the students and continues the relationship through graduation, as well as the completion of board exams. The AA will conduct needs assessment with their students, develop success plans and support the needs of the students. Advisors will focus a majority of the time with the students enrolled in the distance learning programs. This position is a hybrid position with time being spend on campus and remotely to meet the needs of the student population.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Coordinates the new student orientation course and chairs the orientation committee to assess outcomes, student preparedness, and incorporates feedback into future programs
    • Develops first semester success plans for students enrolled with a probationary status
    • Conducts skills assessments and creates individual development plans specifically for students on warning or probation
    • Oversees tutoring programs with the Director of Education and Deans and encourages student use of services
    • Evaluates students’ progression and provides guidance towards degree completion
    • Encourages and supports advisees for academic success through consistent communication
    • Routinely monitors progress throughout the tenure of the program
    • Advises students individually and in groups to disseminate knowledge regarding program requirements
    • Delivers guidance and direction to students regarding academic and professional planning
    • Provides guidance regarding policies, procedures, processes, and resources
    • Helps trouble-shoot issues and problems as they arise
    • Other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Competent using Office 365 and other computer programs
    • Ability to work on cross-functional teams
    • Ability to remain flexible under shifting priorities

    QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

    • Master’s Degree in education, student affairs, or related field
    • Prior and proven experiences in undergraduate academic advising in a degree-granting institution
    • Previous experience in orientation programming or teaching
    • Knowledge of Learning Management and Student Information Systems


    Language and Computer Skills

    Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present complex information to varying levels of individuals throughout the organization.

    Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of student information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, other types of project management software and keyboard.


    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
    Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment with light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Very limited exposure to physical risk.
