Honors College staff members should possess a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and a commitment to working with high-achieving students. The Academic Advisor and Recruiting Coordinator works with students in two primary ways. The incumbent will be responsible for academic advising of approximately 160 students each semester, which involves assessing students’ curricular needs and opportunities and placing them in appropriate honors classes. Honors College Academic Advisors function as liaisons with first-year advisors and with advisors in academic units; and possess a working knowledge of college curricula, university policy, and campus resources. Using this knowledge, Academic Advisors guide students toward a rich collegiate experience that may include research, study abroad, service learning, and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success, using available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising. As Recruiting Coordinator, the incumbent will coordinate and lead information sessions and individual appointments with prospective students. The incumbent will also coordinate the SCHC student ambassador program.

Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Some knowledge of USC policies, procedures, and programs is preferred.

Ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to deal diplomatically with various constituent groups and be proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret information accurately.

Advising Technology, Training and Development: Uses available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising. Participates in on-going training to ensure information accuracy and effective advising techniques.

Recruiting Coordinator: Coordinates large information sessions and individual appointments for prospective students and families in collaboration with the Visitor Center. Serves as primary contact regarding inquiries from prospective students. Coordinates representation of Honors College at UofSC recruitment events.

Honors Ambassadors Program: Coordinates and oversees honors student ambassador program, which includes recruiting, selecting, hiring and training students to participate in recruiting future SCHC students.
