Academic Advisor advises university/college students in course and major selection, requirements for selected area of concentration, and post-college plans. Assists students in setting academic goals, course planning and career development. Being an Academic Advisor may work with individual students or groups. Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling or related field or its equivalent. Additionally, Academic Advisor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Campus Academic Advisor I is responsible for providing exceptional service to students in line with SNHU’s Core Values, focusing on the following key areas: student success, student persistence, and the student experience.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Review established reports daily and outreach to effectively support student success, persistence, and satisfaction.
Utilize the Student Engagement Guide as a resource to proactively outreach students to remove anticipated barriers.
Support new students using the new student orientation process.
Understand student’s goals and tailor approach to meet student’s needs.
Meet all established service level agreements.
Resolve student concerns in one interaction or take ownership of resolution, assuring prompt follow-up.
Deliver and maintain an accurate course plan to each student, ensuring students with acknowledged course plans are registered for all future terms.
Actively listen and seek to understand by demonstrating care and curiosity in all interactions.
Deliver open, honest, direct and respectful communication.
Maintain a positive attitude and professionally deal with a changing environment.
Advocate relentlessly for the “right thing” to do on behalf of our students.
Remain engaged and informed to ensure delivery of accurate information.
Assist with commencement ceremonies and reception events.
Provide mentorship to new advisors.
Provide assistance on special projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Years of relevant or specific experience: One to two years’ experience working in professional setting (customer service, sales, admissions, advising, higher education).
Academic Degree(s) and/ areas of study: Bachelor’s degree
Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable: ? Yes ? No

Ability to build relationships and develop a rapport with students.
Ability to receive and apply feedback.
Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to effectively communicate with students and staff in a clear and concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
One to two years of experience in higher education.
Prior customer service experience.
