JOB SUMMARY
Northeastern State University, College of Education seeks a part time Academic Coach for the grant funded RiverHawk Centers for Teacher Excellence (RCTE Project). The RCTE Project at NSU will provide supplemental efforts to existing programs with the objective of increasing and retaining the number of well-prepared teachers from diverse backgrounds and/or bilingual/multilingual. Academic coaches will interact with students, prepare and present workshops, recruit interested teacher candidates and reduce barriers for current students.
MAJOR DUTIES
Deconstruct syllabi so participants have a better understanding of course expectations.
Assist participants in developing a manageable plan to ensure a realistic school/work/life balance
Provide connections to institutional tutoring services and study groups
Explain and guide institutional course withdrawal policy and impact on financial aid.
Provide participants with connections to test preparation materials, workshops, and courses.
Direct participants to resources that may provide financial assistance for exam related expenses, additional financial assistance programs, and completing scholarship applications.
Provide academic and college life-skill building to (aspiring) teacher candidates
Connect teacher candidates to other support services
Facilitate individual coaching and workshops.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
Hours will be flexible and may include daytime, evenings and/or occasional weekend presentations.
Maximum of 17 hours a week.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
The work is typically performed in an office.

None
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be proficient in using Widows, Microsoft Office, and specialized database software.
Preference will be given to individuals who come from a diverse and /or bilingual/multilingual background.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Math, Science, teaching or related field.
Salary $15.00 per hour
