    Salary: $75,000-$90,000

     

    Reporting to our Director of Education and working with our Academic Dean of the Lower Elementary School and Academic Dean of the Upper Elementary and Middle Schools, the Director of Academic Assessment & Data Administration will:

    • Oversee Empowerment Academy’s academic assessment regime;
    • Select/develop/implement systems for the capture, retrieval and presentation of scholar learning data;
    • Monitor scholar learning progress;
    • Help identify gaps in scholar learning and our curriculum;
    • Help determine the effectiveness of program innovations and academic interventions; and
    • Assist our Executive Officer/Principal in faculty evaluation.

    Expectations and Responsibilities

     

    K-12 Instructional Leadership Team Support: The Coordinator will provide support to the school’s K-12 instructional leadership team – consisting of Empowerment Academy’s Director of Education/Principal, Academic Deans and Teacher Leaders – as they work to select/develop and regularly revise the curricula, curricular materials and assessments used at the School.

     

    Selection, Development and Management of Empowerment Academy’s Student Learning Information Systems:

    Reporting to the Director of Education/Principal, the Coordinator will be responsible for selecting, developing and managing Empowerment Academy’s student learning information system, ensuring that student learning data is well tracked and organized and can be easily retrieved by a scholar’s educators and parents/guardians.

     

     

    Data Formatting and Presentation: The Coordinator will be responsible for developing data presentation formats that make the interpretation of retrieved student learning data easy.

     

    Monitoring Scholar Learning / Education Program Evaluation: The Coordinator will be expected to monitor scholar learning in order to identify weaknesses in our curriculum or instruction and evaluate the effectiveness of education programs and academic interventions.

     

    Leader Training in Assessment Data Analysis and Professional Learning Community Leadership:

    The Coordinator will support school leaders, grade level leaders and department leaders as they chair Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings that:

    • Feature “test-in-hand” data analysis that goes beyond what scholars got wrong to why scholars got it wrong;
    • Facilitate PLC members taking responsibility for successfully addressing their scholars’ learning challenges; and
    • Develop PLC members’ ability to effectively use data to drive high quality lesson planning and instruction.

    Educator Professional Development and Evaluation: We also expect the Coordinator to assist Empowerment Academy’s Executive Officer/Principal in the planning of educator professional development and in the evaluation of educators.

     

    Afterschool Meetings: The Coordinator should expect periodically needing to stay afterschool during the school year to provide educator training or to meet with school leaders and teachers for data review and planning.

     

    Coordinator Professional Development: The Coordinator will be asked to read and master:

    • Driven by Data by Paul Bambrick-Santoyo;
    • Sections of Leverage Leadership by Paul Bambrick-Santoyo and Teach Like a Champion by Doug Lemov; and
    • Sections of Professional Learning Communities at Work: Best Practices for Enhancing Student Achievement by Richard Dufour and Robert Eaker.
    • The Coordinator will also be expected to attend professional development workshops and training if so directed by the Executive Officer/Principal.

    Requirements

    Certifications / Qualifications

    The Board of Trustees seeks candidates who:

    • Has at least 3 years of teaching experience and holds a valid teaching certificate issued by the DOE in NJ;
    • Are expert at using information systems to track, organize, retrieve and present student learning data;
    • Are expert in the analysis of academic assessment data and its effective use to appropriately revise curricula and to drive high quality lesson planning and instruction;
    • Possess relevant student learning assessment and data administration experience within an academic setting (for instance, at a high-performing charter public school such as UnCommon Schools, KIPP, Success Academy, or at a traditional public school or privately managed school);
    • Understand how Professional Learning Communities effectively use data to modify lesson planning and instruction; and
    • Will commit themselves to the mission and goals of Empowerment Academy.
