ADMINISTRATION/FINANCE DEPARTMENT
JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTANT
Rockford Rescue Mission considers every position one of ministry and a vital part of our team. Additionally, staff must be willing to lead and/or participate in Bible study, prayer, devotions, chapel and sharing the Gospel.
REPORTS TO: CFO
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To assist the CFO in all areas of Finance. To plan, direct and administer the safeguarding of cash in conformity with Rockford Rescue Mission policy.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoor office environment which requires sitting at a desk. Computer work involved. May involve some lifting and moving of equipment and boxes.
MANAGE ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
1. Secure proper authorization and approval of expenses through the use of purchase orders and purchase journals.
2. Ensure proper documentation and accurate recording including the correct allocation of account numbers.
3. Produce and distribute checks in a timely manner for payment of operational expenses.
4. Provide proper physical security of financial records.
5. Secure proper taxpayer identification (W-9).
MANAGE ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE
1. Record daily totals of each deposit from donations, Thrift Store receipts, credit card transactions, rental of property and miscellaneous income.
MAINTAIN CURRENT CASH BALANCE AND RECONCILIATION
1. Maintain cash balance.
2. Reconcile bank statements monthly.
3. Monitor positive pay account.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain files of invoices, documents, etc. relating to financial records.
2. Work with auditors, as necessary.
3. Fill in for CFO as needed.
4. Prepare monthly Purchase Journal for review and approval of Board of Directors’ Treasurer.
5. Provide liaison with insurance agent as needed.
6. Maintain monthly subsidiary financial records and analysis as needed.
7. Assist CFO with end of month and budget duties as needed.
8. Prepare, post and update the general ledger and perform reconciliations.
9. Conduct routine and ad-hoc analysis such as trend analysis, benchmarking, ratio analysis and cost benefit assessments.
10. Perform other duties and activities as assigned, at any time, with or without notice.
MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES
1. Attend staff meetings.
2. Assist in other areas as needed.
3. Modify and/or configure the Accounting System as needed.
PHYSICAL FACTORS
1. Occasional standing, bending, twisting, lifting, moving and walking.
2. Sitting for extended periods of time.
SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Take every opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
2. Provide spiritual encouragement to staff, volunteers, guests, and residents.
3. Invest in the spiritual development of staff, guests, residents, and donors.
4. Pray for and with staff, volunteers, guests, residents, and donors.
5. Ensure actions and policies reflect the Christian values and purpose of the Mission.
6. Handle relational conflicts according to the Staff Covenant of Romans 12:18 and Matthew 18:15-19.
7. Memorize monthly Scripture, Mission Statement, and Mission Core Values.
8. Participate in corporate prayer and Scripture reading, staff chapel services, and all spiritual gatherings.
9. Support and attend annual mandatory Evangelism In-Service training to grow in knowledge of leading others to faith in Christ.
10. Participate in annual spiritual growth training through organization selected curriculum.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum requirement bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
2. Two to four years’ accounting experience is required.
3. Exemplary character and integrity.
4. Computer proficiency required. Accounting software experience required (sage Intacct and Bill.com preferred.
5. Must be teachable and function as a team player.
6. Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and off-site facilities.
7. Must take an active part ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all our staff, volunteers, and Mission guests.
