Accounting Clerk performs routine accounting activities such as data entry, maintenance of the general ledger, preparation of various accounting statements and financial reports. Reviews, codes, and verifies transactions including billings, invoices, checks, and journal entries. Being an Accounting Clerk assists in completing moderately complex calculations using spreadsheets and other software tools. Reconciles accounts and bank statements. Additionally, Accounting Clerk has a basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Accounting Clerk works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Responsibilities:
- Administer Accounts Payable; organizing, dating, preparing and allocating invoices
- Collect, review and allocate weekly timesheets
- Working with an outside Payroll Service, assist in processing and posting Payroll
- Collect, review, allocate, process and post monthly Credit Card expenses
- Process travel reimbursements for staff and board members
- Monthly bank reconciliations
- Create or update Chart of Accounts, Vendors, Grants and Staff information
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records
- Retrieve, prepare and present financial information when requested
- Assist with the year-end independent audit
Qualifications:
- one to two years clerical accounting experience; background in office management and administrative assistant preferred.
- Previous experience in bookkeeping is a plus
- Proficiency in using QuickBooks accounting software
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
