Accounting Director directs the operations and policies of an accounting function. Implements accounting policies and procedures that adhere to governmental, financial, and tax regulations and comply with GAAP and IFRS standards. Being an Accounting Director monitors and evaluates accounting systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization. Oversees overall monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and reporting. Additionally, Accounting Director develops and directs accounting professionals and supports staff through subordinate managers. Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. May require Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Typically reports to a head of accounting. The Accounting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. As the Director of Technical Accounting, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our financial reporting processes. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
Provide expert guidance on complex accounting issues and transactions.
Stay abreast of emerging accounting standards and assess their impact on the company.
Interpret and apply accounting policies relevant to the insurance industry, including but not limited to ASC 944.
Provide guidance on complex insurance-related transactions and financial instruments.
Lead the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
Possess or develop a strong understanding of Model Audit Rule requirements and ensure compliance.
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of systems and controls to support MAR compliance.
Manage the audit process and all audit issues with the outside auditors for all entities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address any MAR-related issues or concerns.
Leverage industry education or prior experience working with insurance companies to enhance financial reporting in compliance with industry standards.
Stay informed about changes in the regulatory landscape affecting the insurance sector.
Utilize your experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance to enhance internal controls and financial reporting processes.
Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate the successful completion of SOX and/or MAR audits.
Work closely with the finance team, legal, and other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Provide training and guidance to team members on technical accounting matters.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification is required.
Big Four or large regional experience strongly preferred
Experience in Technical Accounting and research, experience with insurance companies a plus
In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, including experience with complex accounting issues.
Familiarity with Model Audit Rule (MAR) or Sarbanes-Oxley and prior experience ensuring compliance.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and leadership abilities.
Highly organized with ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
