  • Camp Chewonki Activity Coordinator serves as a mentor and supervisor to Chewonki’s activity counselors, providing support for nearly all aspects of their jobs including the planning, preparation, and implementation of the activity curriculum.


    • Location: Wiscasset, Maine (On Campus, in-person)

    • Schedule/ 2024 Dates: June 8, 2024 - August 12, 2024

    • Reports to: Program Head 

    • Direct Reports: Activity Counselors


    Position Summary:


    The Activity Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily camp schedule while also creating camper schedules, staff schedules, and selecting elective period offerings. The Activity Coordinator is expected to support the growth and development of all activity staff in working towards their personal best as an educator, caretaker, and employee along with the support of the Head Activity Counselor.  They also receive scheduling support from the Office & Logistics Assistant who is directly supervised by the Camp Administrator.  


    Essential Responsibilities:


    • Create and manage the daily camp schedule including cabin, staff, and individual camper schedules.

      • Supported by Office and Logistics Assistant

    • Communicate schedules clearly and consistently with the camp team, support teams, and curriculum partners. 

    • Directly supervise activity counselors, and: 

      • Conduct observations and provide feedback to activity staff to support staff development.

      • Organize regular individual and team check-ins with activity counselors and provide support as needed.

    • Assist curriculum partners with tasks related to the planning and preparation of the activity curriculum (e.g. ordering supplies, preparing activity resources, planning special events).

    • Maintain essential duties as a member of the Coordinator team. 

      • Meet with other Coordinator Team members to discuss and address camp concerns .

      • Participate in Leader of the Day (LoD) rotation to ensure camp schedule runs smoothly.

    • Instill joy and enthusiasm into the daily life of camp.

    • Community Responsibilities:

      • Work to honor and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and a lens of anti-racism in the best interest of participants, constituents, and staff across the organization.

      • A willingness to work as a team member among the Camp Program and the greater Chewonki community.

      • Work on the Chewonki campus and share meals with the community.

      • Contribute to and collaborate with the Chewonki community through committees and foundation wide events.

      • Share the collective responsibility within risk management (physical, behavioral, institutional, etc.) by:

    • Using sound judgment.

    • Operating within your skill set and Chewonki protocols.

    • Responding to and/ or alerting the appropriate person(s) when you see something that may compromise safety.

    • Fullfull other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must complete fingerprinting requirements/pass criminal background check.

    • This position is eligible for a stipend for driving responsibilities if the following qualifications are met:

      • Valid driver’s license and driving record approved by Chewonki’s Insurance Carrier, must attend Driver’s Training. 

      • At least 21 years old (to drive participants)

    • Attend required onboarding and training sessions.

    • Experience in program management, preferred.

      • Familiarity with CampMinder preferred.

    • Experience supervising or leading young adults, preferred.

    • Organized, strategic, and detail oriented.

    • Digital literacy (Google Suite, etc.).

    • Wilderness First Aid strongly preferred, course available from Chewonki


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to lift up to 30 lb at a time.

    • Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.

    • Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.

    • Able to maintain attention and a high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.


    SALARY & BENEFITS


    Starting Salary: $5,100

    • Incentives: travel stipend, Room & Board, refer-a-friend $200 bonus. Potential Wilderness First Aid (starts June 6th).
