Activity Specialist organizes and provides program content for social events for an organization or group of people. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being an Activity Specialist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, Activity Specialist performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Activity Leader

  • Salary Range: $17.01 - $24.86

    Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

    Position Summary:

    • Under the supervision of the Activities Director.
    • Work with individuals of all functioning activity levels toward achieving the highest level of independent function. 
    • Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.
    • Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.

    • Demonstrate Respect, Professionalism and Courtesy to all patients, visitors, other providers and coworkers, as delineated in the LVMC “Commitment to Care”.

    Position Duties/Responsibility:

    • Completes all components of activity documentation in a timely manner.
      • Completes activity attendance and participation reports.
      • Transfers data collected onto the computer.
      • Completes activity summaries.
      • Participates in care plan development and implementation.  Attends care plan meetings.
    • Assists in maintaining a comprehensive activity program.
      • Participates in all aspects of activity program development and implementation.
      • Presents programs in a manner which promotes independence, encourages interaction, elicits participation, and heightens residents’ interest.
      • Determines program effectiveness based on resident attendance and participation.
    • Assists with the facilities’ Pet Program
      • Feeds cats, dogs, birds and fish.
      • Routinely cleans litter boxes and bird cages.
    • Assists with residents’ care and special needs
      • Assists with passing of trays at breakfast and lunch in the Activity Room.
      • May assist with different tasks such as feeding residents.
      • Drive and/or accompany residents to out of facility activities.
    • Position Competencies

    Essential Functions:

    • The ability for prolonged standing, walking and sitting.
    • The ability to keyboard.
    • The ability to bend or kneel.
    • The ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous and respectful working relationships with residents, their families, volunteers, co-workers and the general public
    • The ability to be supervised.
    • The ability to work as a Team.

    Position Qualifications:

    • Education: Must possess a high school Diploma or equivalent and demonstrate ability to read, write and follow instructions. 
    • Experience: Experience working with the elderly is preferred but not required                        
    • Certifications: Must possess a valid California Drivers License (with a good driving record). Must successfully complete, within the first six months of employment or when offered in Santa Barbara County, the California State Activity Leader Certification course.  If the employee is hired with a valid CNA certificate, the employee must maintain it as a condition of employment. 
    • Skills/Ability: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; perform responsibilities within departmental time lines; successfully coordinate several tasks simultaneously; be able to work as department needs dictate, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime; be able to work with individuals of all functioning levels.
