Actuarial Fellow utilizes statistical analysis and modeling to assess and manage risk and estimate financial outcomes. Compiles, prepares, and analyzes data to develop statistical models, probability tables, and actuarial studies and evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Being an Actuarial Fellow assists with product design and development by analyzing risk groups and calculating appropriate insurance rates, premium levels, and rating systems and structures. Records and tracks accruals, claims, and settlements and prepares documents for input into regulatory filings, financial budgets, forecasts, and other financial projections. Additionally, Actuarial Fellow applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA). Typically reports to a manager. To be an Actuarial Fellow typically requires 12+ years of related experience. Achievement and depth of knowledge of specialization or field is the main differentiator. Advisory role on complex and challenging projects and initiatives. Dr. John Ferbas leads a lab of highly trained single cell biologists that leverage the technologies of flow cytometry and microscopy to interrogate cells and works within the broader infrastructure of the Research Biomics team at Amgen. This post-doctoral position will be conducted under his mentorship; and will address development / optimization of novel single-cell bioluminescence probes. The project will span from the fundamental element of identifying a family of optimized enzyme-substrate pairs (e.g., luciferase / substrate pairs) & end with formulation of robust applications in the biomedical sciences. The applications will be targeted to the single-cell level, and will require a blend of bioengineering expertise as well as a practical (broader) working knowledge of the life sciences.
The post-doctoral fellow will be supported within this infrastructure to develop an independent line of research and will have multiple opportunities to interact with a variety of academic & industry investigators both within & outside Amgen to design studies, monitor progress, modify approaches as led by the data & reach their goals.
This is expected to be a 3-year position with the option to extend for an additional year.

The annual salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $77,626 – $86,250.
