Actuary utilizes statistical analysis and modeling to assess and manage risk and estimate financial outcomes. Compiles, prepares, and analyzes data to develop statistical models, probability tables, and actuarial studies and evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Being an Actuary assists with product design and development by analyzing risk groups and calculating appropriate insurance rates, premium levels, and rating systems and structures. Records and tracks accruals, claims, and settlements and prepares documents for input into regulatory filings, financial budgets, forecasts, and other financial projections. Additionally, Actuary applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Must be currently pursuing the designation of ASA (Associate) in the Society of Actuaries. Typically reports to a manager. The Actuary work is closely managed.     About the Role

    The Americas actuarial team within Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is looking to hire an individual to lead actuarial analyses for our long-tailed North America portfolios. This includes support for a wide range of local and global segments:

    • Construction Excess Liability (North America)
    • Construction Professional Indemnity (Global)
    • Canada General Liability and Commercial Auto
    • US General Liability and Commercial Auto (Supporting International Accounts)
    • Secondary support for North America D&O

    This role offers a unique opportunity to work with actuaries and business partners from around the world. In addition, the individual will gain exposure to a wide range of actuarial techniques, commercial products, and regional standards. Projects consist of regular quarterly/annual updates along with less frequent deep-dives into segment loss experience. A sample of responsibilities include:

    • Quarterly reviews of projected profitability and segmentation analysis to better understand relative profitability
    • Annual pricing model calibration to align with internal profit targets and/or external data
    • Periodic excess model calibrations based on curve fitting of collected data
    • Partnership with underwriting leadership regarding strategic actions
    • Occasional pricing support for individual large accounts

    About the Team

    We are the actuarial team providing support to multiple Corporate Solutions businesses across North and Latin America. We work closely with our business partners to offer portfolio steering support based on data-driven decisions. Team members are encouraged to take ownership of their portfolios, becoming product experts, and advocates for their products to senior management.


    About You

    • Successful progress toward Casualty Actuarial Society credentialing required
    • Minimum three years of pricing experience
    • Critical skills:
      • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
      • Organized and able to manage various priorities
      • Internal drive to push projects forward and meet deadlines
      • Curiosity to understand "what" the data is saying and "why"
      • Interest in developing data-based strategic actions in partnership with portfolio owners
      • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical colleagues
      • Ability to turn technical insights into practical guidance
      • Creativity to consider actuarial problems in new ways
    • Experience working with Commercial Liability or Professional Liability products preferred, but not required
    • Experience with SQL, R, and/or Python preferred but not required
