    Job Description Summary
    The School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Director for its Administrative Service Center for the Ryan Small Animal Hospital and the Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine (collectively, as the Small Animal enterprise). This position will provide oversight to critical financial and operational functions at the Philadelphia-based Small Animal campus and is charged with creating financial reporting and workflow standards, greater internal controls, enhanced service and support for faculty and staff and unified financial planning and analysis across diverse revenue channels. Facilitate and coordinate cross-organizational functions between operational orgs (i.e., Department, Hospital). Optimize performance of the hospital financial operations and revenue cycle. Provide oversight of the academic unit including research fund management. Responsible for establishment and administration of policy for all business personnel and ensuring compliance with said policy. Oversee the budget planning process and provide long-term planning, development of operating objectives and budgets and collaborating on the creation of systems for efficient delivery of hospital services. This is a school level, senior management position and reports directly to the Vice Dean, Administration & Finance/CFO.

    The combined enterprise expenditure budget exceeds $54 million. In addition, the Small Animal Hospital generates $38 million in revenue and sees over 33,000 visits annually.

    Job Description

    Strategic Planning - Provides advisory and contributory support for the enterprise specific strategic plan and the larger SVM-wide strategic planning objectives. Leads the decision support function (analysis / due diligence) when considering planning assumptions and alternatives. Functions as the key business advisor to the HD (Hospital Director) and Department Chair and ensures strong communication/coordination with the HD, Chair and CFO.

    Financial Planning - Budget, Forecast exercise, special project/initiative planning. Directs the enterprise-wide budget planning process to include development of long-range assumptions and scenarios impacting strategic goals. Oversee the quarterly forecast exercise and recommend actions based on the forecast. Provide decision support including recommendations for special projects and initiatives.

    Fiscal Operations - Directs the enterprise-wide fiscal operations of the enterprise to ensure uniform compliance, optimal workflows, operating standards and greater service levels to faculty and staff. Functional oversight for core responsibilities includes procurement, asset management, internal controls and compliance, Form 990 Schedule F and UBIT reporting.

    Financial Reporting & Analysis: Oversees the monthly financial reporting process for the hospital. Presents financial results to senior leadership and engage unit leaders (business office, nursing, operations) to carry out recommended course of action. Monthly reporting shall include auxiliary enterprise units (diagnostic labs), academic unit and restricted funds.

    Programmatic Commitment & Compliance - Oversees programmatic commitments (SVM / department and external such as UPENN), recruitment planning support (projections/analysis) faculty compensation compliance (scalable, merit-based process), and collaborative oversight for the financial and administrative affairs in support of the faculty.

    Qualifications

    A Bachelor's degree is required, and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
    Preferred experience with Penn's financial systems: BEN Financials, Penn Works Payroll, Hyperion Planning, Business Objects, and PennERA.
    Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    Candidate must have strong analytic, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality required.
    Must have excellent interpersonal skills, and work effectively with a variety of people.
    Excellent organizational skills required.
    Ability to work independently, establish priorities and set/meet deadlines.
    Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a complex financial and administrative environment.
