    Primary Job Function:

    • The Delaware Area Career Center Adult Education Teacher is responsible for planning and developing student skills sufficient to qualify them for entry-level employment. The Adult Ed teacher will help students identify goals and make appropriate choices. This is done through student-faculty engagement, fostering cooperation between classmates, active listening, timely feedback, high expectations and respecting diverse talents and learning styles of all students and other colleagues. This job description is a comprehensive list of essential functions. Essential functions are job duties a staff member must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodations.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree

    • Valid Ohio Teacher's License or Adult Education Permit

    • Licenses approved by Ohio Department of Education for the purpose of teaching Adult Education

    Students & Learning:  

    • Adult Education teachers believe every student can learn and that all students can master technical skills with appropriate differentiation and intervention.
    • Adult Education teachers will implement teaching best practices based on the needs of adult learners
    • Adult Education teachers set quantifiable learning outcomes for students and hold students accountable for meeting those outcomes
    • Adult Education teachers work with the Director of Adult Education and or Coordinator to promote career/technical training programs
    • Adult Education teachers work to provide technical and trade pathways for students.
    • Adult Education teachers produce measurable growth in student achievement.
    • Adult Education teachers recognize individual differences in students and adjust practices accordingly.

    Knowledge & Pedagogy:

    • Adult Education teachers understand the subject area content and how knowledge in the subject field is created, organized, and may be linked to other disciplines
    • Adult Education teachers demonstrate subject area knowledge and convey the knowledge clearly to students
    • Adult Education teachers use comprehensive planning skills to design effective instruction
    • Adult Education teachers monitor workforce trends and training needs. They evaluate the relevance of new technology

    Classroom Environment:

    • Adult Education teachers maintain a classroom environment appropriate and engaging for adult learners
    • Adult Education teachers will provide instruction that is appropriately paced and directed to specific occupational skills
    • Adult Education teachers will instruct students in appropriate job-seeking and retention skills
    • Adult Education teachers engage students in complex problem-solving and the exploring of ideas and issues in classroom activities
    • Adult Education teachers create a classroom climate that promotes openness, mutual respect, support, and inquiry. This should be done through:
      • Fostering strong student-teacher relationships
      • Promoting cooperation among students
      • Active listening
      • Providing prompt feedback
      • Placing an emphasis on high expectations
      • Respecting the diverse talents of students as well as diverse ways of learning

    Student Assessment:

    • Adult Education teachers will evaluate student progress and prepare necessary progress reports
    • Adult Education teachers will provide assessments of student job readiness
    • Adult Education teachers will guide students in making career-related decisions
    • Adult Education teachers will assist in finding job placement for students who have been assessed as ready for job placement

    Professional Responsibilities:

    • Adult Education teachers are committed to continuous self-improvement and professional development
    • Adult Education teachers will stay current with the latest vocational and trade updates for the assigned subjects
    • Adult Education teachers will serve as an informational resource for students, district personnel and community organizations
    • Adult Education teachers are responsible for submitting all reports and documentation to the appropriate department as required by the district
    • Adult Education teachers will develop and maintain business and industry contacts
    • Adult Education teachers understand and support the vision, mission, and goals of DACC, and serve as an ambassador for DACC
    • Adult Education teachers view him/herself as a leader in the educational community
    • Teachers are responsible for enforcing applicable Ohio Revised Codes
    • Teachers are responsible for respecting personal privacy and maintaining confidentiality
    • Adult Education teachers are responsible for planning and using appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for e-learning according to guidelines established by DACC

    Ensuring Student Safety:

    • Employees shall be expected to exercise reasonable care with respect to the safety of students and student property. Employees shall discharge their duties and responsibilities to students and property according to the applicable Laws, State guidelines and Board policies.

    • Knowledge of adult learners and alternative educational methods

    • Knowledge of FERPA, IDEA and HIPPA
    • Knowledge of instructional strategies that connect the subject matter
    • Knowledge of all elements needed for student success in assigned career field
    • Knowledge of all DACC adopted software
    • Skilled at effective verbal and written communication
    • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
    • Skilled in collaboration and decision-making, seeking consensus whenever possible
    • Skilled in conflict resolution
    • Skilled at developing rapport and interacting effectively with students and staff
    • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Ability to work with students to provide feedback, maintain an orderly atmosphere, and foster a safe and healthy school environment
    • Ability to handle behavioral and emotionally charged situations in a calm and effective manner
    • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and emotional stability
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to assist students with various physical and intellectual needs
    • Ability to maintain accurate records and write reports and logs
