We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chemical Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting chemical processes, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and contributing to the overall efficiency of our operations. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory practices and materials handling.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient mixing of chemicals, analyses and preparation of plating baths.
2. Responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of process chemicals and lab reagents.
3. Performs all duties in a safe, responsible manner, including wearing safety glasses with side shields, face shields, goggles, aprons, steel toe shoes, boots, rubber gloves and respirators as required.
4. Verifies and accurately applies all product specifications to meet the requirements for materials and processes.
5. Maintains records, control charts and daily logs for engineering and regulatory agencies.
6. Properly monitors and understands the monitoring system, prepares pH reports, resolves and records pH outages, pulls sewer samples to ensure that untreated water is not discharged to the City and responds to pH issues.
7. Starts up and shuts down the Plating Shop and Engineering Lab as required.
8. Cooperates with other chemical technicians, supervisors and support engineers as a team to achieve production requirements and quality work.
9. Operates and monitors the atomic absorption spectrometer (AA).
10.Responsible for handling hazardous waste, including spills from all departments inside and outside the plant.
11.Responsible for labeling, storage and preparation for shipment of hazardous materials.
12.Responsible for maintaining the DI water system, the wastewater treatment system and operating the metal recovery units (gold, nickel, resin and cyanide destruct system).
13.Responsible for operating and coordinating maintenance of exhaust system.
14.Responsible for minimizing the production of hazardous waste and for cleaning up any hazardous spills.
15.Responsible for following the proper evacuation procedures for the facility and responsible for the safe evacuation of employees during non-traditional hours.
16.Working knowledge of all alarm systems plant-wide.
17.Responsible for ensuring rapid cycle time, maintaining and improving the cleanliness and organization of the department.
18.Ensures that all assigned preventative maintenance is scheduled and completed on a timely basis and trouble shoots all equipment in the work area.
19.Knowledgeable of EPA, Federal, State and Local environmental and OSHA laws.
OTHER:
1. Regular in attendance and punctual in reporting for work.
2. Able and willing to work any shift of the three-shift schedule, overtime and/or weekends, as needed.
3. Operates an internal, computer-based documentation system.
4. Prepares periodic testing samples for internal and external analysis.
5. Maintains a clean and orderly work area and assists coworkers in maintaining a clean and orderly department.
6. Performs other duties as required in the assigned department or other department when requested by the Supervisor or Manager.
7. Trains and/or assists other employees when required.
8. Reports to the supervisor, manager, or EHS Director any safety violations that do or do not pose an immediate danger and takes the necessary steps to correct the problem violation when appropriate.
9. Complies with all safety rules and regulations.
10.Complies with company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in a related field with 8 hrs. of college level chemistry or a minimum of 2 years of work experience in a chemistry related field or industry preferred.
· Recommended vision corrected to 20/20 (contact lens not allowed in plant), with good color perception.
· Ability to accurately interpret and record data and follow written and verbal instructions.
· Possess a positive attitude and superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
· Ability to train others as required.
· Computer literate with good data entry skills preferred.
· Ability to reach sound decisions with strong attention to detail.
· Complete Hazwoper Training and updates as required.
· Ability to wear appropriate PPE.
· Working knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
· Working knowledge of Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of labelling.
· Willingness to work under possible hazardous conditions.
· Knowledge of the various types of weigh scales & lab equipment.
· Ability and willingness to operate forklift and obtain certification.
· Ability to use full-face, supplied air, and SCBA respirators.
· Strong problem-solving skills and technical ability to monitor and troubleshoot
departmental processes.
· Demonstrates a high level of initiative and sets good examples for others.
· Member of the EHS team.
