Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     Summary

    Work as part of a team (and periodically as team project leader) to perform engineering tasks associated with the design of new interior components, the refurbishment of overhauled interior components, and the engineering to support aircraft interior reconfiguration projects.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    · Develop aircraft reconfiguration engineering – engineering data to remove, install and relocate components to affect the reconfiguration work scope.

    · Support part sourcing activities by researching OEM components that can be modified to the required OEM configuration.

    · Develop new designs of aircraft interior components using Solidworks.

    · Work with Program Management and Sales to understand project scope, both parts and engineering activity, and actively raise any out-of-scope issues.

    · Ensure that new component designs and modification instructions comply with appropriate regulatory requirements.

    · Work with approving agency to achieve regulatory approvals.

    · Understand program budgets and participate in cross functional design for cost studies. Work with Purchasing and the supply chain to optimize design to meet the design requirements and cost targets.

    · Ensure that designs are producible and work with cross functional teams to improve current designs for ease of manufacturing (seek out and eliminate waste in processes by optimizing engineering).

    · Check other team member’s work (drawings, models, documents, etc.).

    · Work independently, manage workload and prioritize multiple tasks.

    · Track program assignments and communicate status (percent complete/hours to go) to Program Management.

    · Support customer meetings as the engineering representative for the company.

    · Provide assistance toward the strategic direction for the Engineering team relative to new product design, process improvements and design for manufacturing and cost initiatives

    · Provide strategic direction assistance and support for Engineering and Program Management.

    · Provide leadership and mentorship for the Engineering staff through continuous coaching, assistance with skills development and identifying internal career paths.

    · Assisting in leading the team in development of engineering and production cost estimates in support of sales activities.

    · Provide leadership to design development teams in executing the plan and adherence to Stage Gate principles and procedures.

    · Responsible for the development of aircraft interior design solutions that meet program budgets and customer requirements.

    · Provide leadership to team to develop engineering and production solutions to eliminate waste and drive business profitability.

    · Excellent understanding of aircraft interior design and build best practices and industry standards. (Working knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements relative to CFAR 14 parts 21, 25, 121 and 145 and equivalent EASA regulations as applicable to interior changes and component design.)

    · Excellent knowledge of regulatory requirements.

    · Excellent understanding of the design development cycle and industry best practices around program management, stage gate and program scope control.

    · Specific experience using Solid Works to develop designs.

    · Ability to travel 10-15% of the time

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Engineering field of study (i.e. Design, Manufacturing, Stress, etc.) or equivalent experience.

    Minimum 2 years’ experience in growth role to supervisory experience within an aerospace (i.e. manufacturing, MRO, engineering) work environment preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Experience using Solidworks.

    Experience using My Boeing Fleet and Airbus One World.

    Experience using MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

    Experience with Solidworks PDM.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Experience with Lean or Six Sigma desired.
