Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     This position is for a Manufacturing Engineer II that performs conventional to advanced engineering assignments applying concepts, techniques, analysis, and decision tools to promote and implement changes in manufacturing operations. Checks manufacturability of existing products and implements manufacturing processes and changes to improve products and reduce costs. This role may be eligible for relocation.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Performs Manufacturing Engineering assignments under general direction and supervision.
    • Use DFM Techniques to assist Product Engineering on the development of new products and the redesign of existing products.
    • Develops routings and labor standards and updates the ERP System.
    • Writes and/or modifies manufacturing work instructions and acceptance test procedures.


    • Plans the sequence of operations and procedures and documents manufacturing standard work and routing.
    • Designs systems, processes and equipment to increase efficiency, decrease costs, and improve the quality and reliability of product.


    • Design tools and fixtures for production and acceptance testing.
    • Designs and modifies small cell or simple assembly lines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
    • Designs and implements complex manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control to ensure compliance and effective production.
    • Improve facilities layout of production floor space to establish maximum utilization of equipment considering economic factors, process flow, and operator efficiency and comfort.
    • Monitors and ensures mandatory modifications, programs, and bulletins are incorporated or complied with, as required by the customer and the applicable regulatory requirements, to ensure legal compliance and adherence to quality standards.
    • Identifies opportunities or implements changes, on a need basis, to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts to optimize productivity and ensure optimal use of resources.


    • Audits manufacturability of existing products, and recommends modifications or adaptations to address quality, customer, product, or productivity constraints.
    • Conducts tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables; and services, troubleshoots and solves production process problems with processes or equipment already in operation.
    • Conducts analysis of manufacturing processes and equipment to diagnose failures.
    • Analyze customer returns for root cause and leads corrective action efforts in cooperation with Product Engineering.


    • D evelops and updates PFMEAs.
    • Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles.
    • Prepare cost estimates for proposed projects and provide cost benefit analysis by evaluating cost factors and schedules. Plan, execute, and document engineering economic challenges.
    • Maintain awareness of start-of-the-art technology and the applicability of how it can be leveraged to improve the Company's competitive position in the assigned area.
    • Develop tools that enable manufacturing, aid process improvement or address safety concerns.


    • Research new processes, methods, and equipment and make recommendations to achieve continuous improvement in assigned areas of the factory.
    • Design, develop, and improve station loading/line balancing.
    • Create and maintain a factory staffing plan based on sales demand.


    Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience
    • A bility to follow through with work assignments and support management's policies and procedures.
    • Ability to provide the status of work assignments at any time and can quickly produce any documentation or information that is needed.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
    • AutoCad 2D experience is required
    • Experience with Fluid Power and Mechanical Systems, and Lean Manufacturing Principles


    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data
    • Must have strong analytical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
    • Lean Manufacturing experience is preferred
    • Siemens NX experience is preferred

    Employee Referral Eligible

    The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
