Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. We are currently seeking a self-motivated UAS Systems Engineer with a passion to create and an eye for details. You will be part of a fast moving team executing vital tasks in support of the development, testing, and demonstration of the KHA family of Ultra Long Endurance aircrafts. This individual should be comfortable traveling and supporting flight operations when necessary.
Perform feasibility and requirements analysis working with various stakeholders to produce system level functional requirements, intersystem interfaces and performance metrics for test and evaluation
Implement mechanical and electrical system design and integration for payloads and other flight systems leveraging modern techniques (CAD Modeling, CNC, 3D printing, quick turn manufacturing services)
Develop and execute test plans which may include simulation-based, ground, and/or flight tests to validate development against defined requirements ensuring system functionality, performance, and safety
Ability to take ownership and drive projects/tasks to closure
Work with fellow engineers and technicians to improve design and manufacturability
Integrate feedback from flight operation teams to improve system performance and usability
Hands on R&D aircraft building and process optimization
Support in-field flight operations and demonstrations when necessary
3 years of CAD experience (Solidworks/Fusion 360)
2 Ardupilot experience
3 Experience working on UAS
Be able to share projects previously worked on which clearly demonstrate core competencies
Ability and willingness to learn new technologies/concept as necessary
Intermediate level ability to work with and around electronics (power, signal, soldering, crimping)
US citizen with the ability to obtain secret security clearance
Flexibility to travel if/when necessary to support on-going operations
Local to the Bay Area, commuting to Emeryville office required (CA)
FAA Part 107 certified
Model Airplane building/flying experience
