Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     The expected annual salary range for this role is $80250.03 - $117700.04 a year.

    What you'll do:

    Position Overview:
    This role will be a part of the Lighting Engineering team and be responsible for design and development of hardware electronics and electrical systems for Industrial lighting applications. This will include the electrical design of LED circuits, AC/DC power supplies, battery-backup/emergency systems, and microcontroller-based control and communication systems, as well as collaboration with other teams on the following areas: Software/Firmware development, regulatory compliance, project management, testing, mechanical and thermal design, and product maintenance. You will drive innovation from request through the design process, identification of product changes; product support and improvement are highly valued. The position will require the ability to be highly proficient in time management and engineering documentation and to manage multiple projects in parallel with enabling rapid development of product designs to support customer requests.

    Essential Functions Include:
    • Provide leadership and guidance to electronics design team and electronics suppliers on new development programs for Ord.loc and Haz.loc luminaires, from inception to certification, and transfer to production.
    • Drive skill development within the EE team and routinely mentors others in technical area of expertise.
    • Define electronics architecture based on required functionality, safety and compliance with certification regulations. Technical responsibilities include circuit design, analysis, integration, debugging, establishing test methods and test equipment design. Responsible for quality of design, in terms of cost, performance, DFM, assembly and test.
    • Write procurement specifications, conduct vendor design reviews and vendor liaison. Assist purchasing and quality assurance departments in surveys, vendor selections, product evaluation, production support, and component obsolescence issues.
    • Review project deliverables to ensure accuracy and adherence to schedules and production commitments.
    • Interface with cross-functional development team, program management and customers to ensure overall technical compliance of the product and serves as an expert resource to other engineers.
    • Prepare and present technical information for TIM's, PDR's, CDR's etc.
    • Performs design & cost tradeoff studies. Directs product improvement and cost reduction initiatives by responding to internal and external customer requests.

    Qualifications:

    Required (Basic) Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
    • Minimum three (3) years' experience in electrical engineering role with a preference in product design
    • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates who currently reside within 50 miles of Syracuse, NY will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now or in the future.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
    • Master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution
    • Knowledge of power electronics systems and LED lighting products and principles like AC/DC, DC-DC, and DC/AC converters.
    • Proficient in the use of various measurement device including oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and power analyzers.
    • Understanding of design evaluation techniques such as reliability analysis, statistical tolerance stack-up, Failure Mode and Effect analysis (FMEA), etc.
    • Ability to read and understand Drawings, Specifications, and Requirements.
