Aircraft Electrician performs preventative and non-routine maintenance and inspections of aircraft avionics and electrical systems. Uses manufacturer's reference documents, diagrams, and best practices to troubleshoot problems, identify the correct solutions and replace or repair components and parts. Being an Aircraft Electrician conducts quality testing, verification procedures, and required documentation of all completed work. Ensures compliance with all FAA maintenance regulations and requirements. Additionally, Aircraft Electrician typically requires an associate degree in aviation electronics, avionics or equivalent. Requires Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Aircraft Electrician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Key Responsibilities:

    • Does bench repair work on electrical equipment.
    • Be able to read difficult electrical schematics and blueprints and able to document and edit errors and inconsistencies.
    • Be able to properly use a burning/welding torch, be able to electric arc weld, and braze.
    • Makes adaptations as necessary on electrical equipment to make it work consistent with the company's requirements.
    • Be able to determine sources of electrical trouble and correct them.
    • Bends and installs conduit, fittings, enclosures, switches, disconnects, etc. Properly size and pulls wire consistent with national and local codes. Follows through until equipment is operating satisfactorily.
    • Must have thorough working knowledge of electricity, electrical circuits and electrical equipment particularly as they apply to shop equipment operations. Able to apply this knowledge to make necessary repairs safely and efficiently.
    • Documents the procedures and calibrations performed on instrumentation and equipment to meet current ISO requirements.
    • Utilizes technical knowledge to assure the accuracy of recorded data for parts and equipment; locates and identifies missing data and enters all information into maintained records.
    • Performs necessary fieldwork to obtain motor and equipment information and other data necessary to create a permanent record.
    • Provides training and instruction to the Apprentice(s) and to other wage jobs in their work area/department as instructed by supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Must have at least (2) years of electrical experience (i.e. electrical troubleshooting and repairs) in a heavy industrial environment OR must have successfully completed a trainee or certification program with no years of experience.
    2. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
    3. Must be able to climb and work from high places.
    4. Must be able to read difficult electrical schematics and blueprints.
    5. Must meet physical requirements for safe operation of mobile equipment as administered by the Safety Department.
    6. Due to the hazardous nature of the job environment (mobile equipment, overhead cranes, etc.), an acceptable level of vision and hearing are required in order to identify and respond to visual and audible warnings in a safe manner.
    7. Must exhibit a valid state issued driver's license.
