Aircraft Mechanic (Jet) keeps airplane in safe working condition by servicing engines, engine components, and airframe components. Modifies and replaces parts such as instruments, wiring, and tires. Being an Aircraft Mechanic (Jet) identifies hazardous aircraft conditions and determines when aircraft should not be flown. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, Aircraft Mechanic (Jet) may require certification from FAA-approved aviation maintenance technician school. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Aircraft Mechanic (Jet) works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be an Aircraft Mechanic (Jet) typically requires 1-3 years of related experience, or may need 0 years of experience with additional specialized training and/or certification. Assist Licensed Aircraft Mechanics in general airframe and engine inspection, repair. Open and close of inspection panels, cleaning aircraft areas prior to inspection. Aircraft towing. Assist in sheet metal repairs and fabrication. Assist in electrical and hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair. Use of hand tools and specialized tooling. This position is an excellent method of gaining the required experience that can be applied to obtaining an Aircraft Mechanics Airframe and Powerplant certification.
