  • Position Summary

    Minnkota Power is seeking qualified applicants for a Civil Engineer position located at our headquarters in Grand Forks, North Dakota. This position is responsible for Substation Design Engineering, Engineering Analysis, Project Management, and support of Operations and Maintenance personnel.

    The salary range for this position begins at $70,560 per year. Appropriate pay will be determined based on a candidate's skills, education, and previous relevant experience.

    Essential Responsibilities

    1. Substation Design Engineering
      1. Prepare and plan profile drawings, construction drawings and specifications
      2. Develop complete material lists for projects
      3. Assure all substation designs meet strength and safety requirements of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and/or Rural Utility System (RUS) design manual
    2. Engineering Analysis
      1. Perform foundation and grading design calculations
      2. Perform structural design and strength calculations
      3. Design physical substation layouts for both transmission and distribution sites
    3. Project Management
      1. Project scoping, planning and estimating of substation projects
      2. Consultant, contractor and construction coordination and management
    4. Operations and Maintenance Support
      1. Provide day-to-day guidance and technical expertise to operations and maintenance personnel

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university
    • Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification

    Preferred:

    • Professional License (PE)

    Experience

    Required:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills

    Preferred:

    • Experience in the energy industry and with substation design a plus
      • Interested candidates with no experience are encouraged to apply, as extensive on the job training will occur
    • Experience with AutoCAD
