Ambulatory Services Director directs the staff and programs of the ambulatory services department.     Summary:

    Provide overall management of the health care services for individuals supported by The Guild for Human Services in the residential and day school programs and the adult residential program

    Primary Job Responsibilities:

      • Develop a structure in the health services department to meet the requirements and regulations of all stakeholders including DEEC, DESE, DDS, DCF, MCB and DPH
      • Ensure high quality health services are provided to residential students
      • Ensure high quality nursing care is provided to day students
      • Ensure high quality health services are provided to individuals supported in the adult residential program
      • Lead the implementation of the DPH regulated medication delegation program in the under 22 residences
      • Lead the implementation of the DPH MAP (Medication Administration Program) in the adult homes
      • Develop and oversee the implementation of all necessary tracking forms related to health care issues including body checks, food logs, seizure records and bowel monitoring sheets
      • Serve as part of the leadership/risk team to ensure the provision of quality adult residential services at The Guild
      • Ensure health care plans are completed for individuals served in the school and  adult residential  programs
      • Ensure all IEP and ISP documentation is completed by the appropriate nurse case manager
      • Ensure all specialized health needs are addressed and documentation completed as required based on strong clinical practice and  DESE, DEEC and/or DDS regulation including seizure protocols, supportive and protective device forms, medication treatment plans and assistive device forms
      • Ensure all staff are trained on specific health care issues and needs of all students and individuals supported
      • Monitor nurse case managers to ensure completion of routine nursing duties: lab draws, medication changeover, ordering of medication and supplies, vital sign and weight monitoring, assist and follow-up on PCP and psychiatrist visits, etc.
      • Oversee the nursing on-call system
      • Ensure comprehensive preservice training in the area of health care is provided for all new agency staff and comprehensive annual health care training is provided for all staff
      • Monitor to ensure  completion and quality of nursing documentation of all health related issues and parental contacts for the residential and day school programs
      • Ensure that health services staff communicate clearly with all school day/residential staff and adult residential staff on individuals’ health care issues
      • Ensuring nursing support is provided for all on-site student  medical services for including primary care, psychiatry  and dental
      • Ensure that nursing obtains consent for all medication changes for students in the residential school program
      • Work in collaboration with senior Guild leadership, medical and clinical staff to ensure effective communication with families, hospital staff and medical providers when a student or individual is hospitalized (either in an emergency room or inpatient setting)
      • Serve as a member of Internal Abuse Investigation Committee (IAIC)
      • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Program Officer
       

    Qualifications


     

    • Licensed Registered Nurse who has a minimum of a Master’s degree. Preference for additional training/certification specific to nursing practice including CDDN (Certified Developmental Disabilities Nurse)
    • Ten (10) years of experience with individuals who have mental health diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities with a minimum of two plus year supervisory experience
    • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    • Preferred candidate is a registered nurse authorized to provide medication administration training  (MAP) having completed and is current in all requirements as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Department of Developmental Services
    • A high degree of effective oral and written communications skills in English
    • Must be able to organize, plan, and prioritize activities with specific attention to higher level strategies while ensuring that details are also effectively addressed
    • Knowledge of Massachusetts regulatory standards is required with preferred experience in regulatory compliance with standards from Department of Public Health (DPH), Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC), Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDS), Department of Children and Families (DCF), and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
    • Must be able to implement crisis intervention techniques as necessary, including Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (via certification through CPI) and working with Mobile Crisis Team
    • Excellent organization and time management skills.
    • Reliable transportation to 18 locations in Massachusetts
    • Physical and mental capacity to work in stressful situations and de-escalate individuals who have limited cognition and complex needs
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
