Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. Assist the anesthesia provider in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the anesthesia equipment and supplies required for the safe administration of anesthesia. Participate in safe, efficient and cost effective anesthesia care. Provide support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical and non-surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient monitoring devices, anesthesia delivery systems, medicines, and supplies before, during, and after anesthesia cases.
Perform certain complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, at the direction of the anesthesia staff. Inventory of supplies in rooms. Clean and stock rooms after surgeries. Verify drugs and supplies are not outdated. May set-up drips, A-Lines and Central Lines. Using sterile technique gown and glove to set up lines and assist the anesthesia provider with placement of lines in patient. Help position the patient for surgery. Assist provider with intubation. Assist provider with extubation. Help provider transport patient to recovery.
