Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. DEFINITION:
Under the general supervision and direction of the Anesthesiologist, Anesthesist, and OR manager provides nonlicensed technical and supportive services by preparing anesthetizing locations for indicated procedures to include calibrating monitoring devices; trouble shooting anesthesia equipment malfunctions; assisting providers with arterial line, blood warmers, rapid infusion, and central line set-ups; clean anesthesia machines, monitors and equipment following procedures established by infection control; stock anesthesia supplies and inform surgery materials management of supplies that need to be ordered; and act as a resource for the surgical healthcare team by providing technical guidance and instruction as appropriate. Assists the surgical healthcare team by maintaining the physical environment for the following age groups; infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
