CPHS is looking for an Animal Care Associate.
This is a part time position - anything from 15-30 hours a week depending on shelter needs. Starting salary is $11 an hour with an increase up to $12. 00 an hour after six months. You must have availability to work any days - Monday through Sunday. Hours range from 8:30am to anywhere between 1-3pm.
Essential Functions and Physical Requirements:
1. Treat all animals with respect and patience. Provide affection and socialization to all animals on a daily basis; includes walking, holding, petting and playing with toys.
2. Provide assistance to volunteers, community service volunteers and other employees, as needed.
3. Ability to receive anti-rabies pre-exposure and tetanus vaccines, if applicable.
4. No unmanageable animal related allergies, or allergies to sanitizers (i.e. chlorine bleach).
5. Physical ability to lift and carry large animals, sacks of food, litter and supplies weighing over 30 pounds.
6. Cleaning duties include frequent bending, stooping and scrubbing. Scoop each animals run, cage or litter pan as needed throughout the day, including outside runs and yards.
7. Disinfect and thoroughly clean and dry kennels, cages, bedding, toys, dishes and litter pans daily. Maintain all animals in a clean, dry and comfortable manner. Help keep up with laundry. Chemicals used include detergents, chlorine bleach, trifectant and other sanitizers. Clean and sanitize on a regular basis all areas of the shelter, including floors, walls, equipment, and other items as specified.
8. Ensure that each animal has proper food and water throughout the day.
9. Report to Team Leaders any animal health issues or concerns. Administer medication to animals as required.
10. Groom animals as needed; includes bathing, brushing, nail trimming and ear cleaning. Monitor animals condition daily.
11. Assist with dog assessments if applicable.
12. Assist with loading bodies into freezers and crematory.
13. Stock supplies as needed. Clean front shelter yard and parking lot for dropped off items and debris.
14. Show adoptable animals to potential adopters explaining adoption process.
15. Learn use of shelter software and perform intakes, adoptions, etc. Update Petfinder with adoptable animals.
16. Provide professional customer service to visitors. Assist with answering phones, answering emails, Facebook posts (if granted access), making copies, and other general office duties.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
1. High School graduate or GED
2. Prior experience in the animal welfare field desirable.
3. Knowledge of animal behavior, traits and proper care desired.
4. Ability to speak clearly, understand the English language and communicate well with others.
5. Ability to complete forms, documents and reports in legible handwriting in the English language.
6. Computer experience a plus.
7. Must have reliable transport and a Drivers License.
8. A police background check will be required.
