17.36to20.83Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Cleans and sanitizes kennels, cages and related areas, including cleaning food/water bowls and litter pansPerforms minor repairs and routine maintenance of kennels and cagesPrepares and dispenses appropriate amounts of food and water to animals; transports, unloads, and stores food suppliesPerforms routine observations of animals and their cages to monitor food consumption, behavior, obvious signs of illness, and condition of the animals for health and safety purposesAdministers vaccinations, dewormers, flea treatment prevention and medications; scans all animals for microchipsOversees kennel staff in the absence of the Shelter Operations/Program CoordinatorAssists members of the public searching for lost animals or seeking to adopt animals in person and/or via telephoneCleans animal waste and fluids multiple times throughout shiftAssists with intake of animals when neededWalks dogs, on leashes, to and from outside exercise areasWashes and dries towels, toys, bedding, etc.
Excellent customer-service skills and ability to maintain an organized system and complete multiple tasks simultaneouslyWorking knowledge of Florida and Clay County Animal Ordinances and LawsComprehensive knowledge of humane care and treatment of animals and of basic veterinary care practices and proceduresAbility to work under stressful conditionsAbility to follow written and/or oral instructions carefullySkilled in the use of veterinary drugs, including those used in euthanasiaSuperior written and verbal communication skills, including de-escalation skills for assisting upset members of the publicEmployees may be required to perform duties, including the employee's normal work function or other emergency support functions as deemed necessary by the County, as assigned before, during, and after hazardous weather or state of local emergency.
